Impact on Research and Industry
Since its foundation, TECHO has tirelessly worked to build fair and inclusive cities where all families can access dignified living spaces. The organization focuses on the most excluded communities, mobilizing volunteers and professionals to address the housing emergency and improve living conditions in informal settlements such as camps, tenements, and communal housing.
TECHO-Chile began in 1997 in Curanilahue, when a group of university students built a chapel with the local community, transforming their perspective on poverty. Led by Felipe Berríos SJ, they realized they could help build homes and significantly improve the lives of many people. By the late 90s, despite Chile experiencing economic growth, there was still significant hidden poverty. These volunteers committed to making this reality visible and confronting it, transforming not only the lives of the communities they assisted but also their own. They understood the importance of creating opportunities instead of offering charity, promoting dignity and organization among people in poverty.
What is their commitment and contribution to the country?
TECHO contributes significantly to Chilean society through various initiatives focused on housing and social integration. Its main contributions include:
Permanent Housing
Supporting housing committees in the search for permanent housing solutions, actively participating in programs such as the Solidarity Housing Fund (DS.49).
Social Integration
Design and execution of projects promoting social and urban integration, serving as Technical Assistance Service Providers (PSAT) in the Social and Territorial Integration Program (DS.19), in collaboration with various development entities.
Micro Settling
Implementation of innovative micro-settlement programs in deteriorated urban areas, offering housing solutions through small condominiums and self-built constructions on-site.
«Unity is an absolute principle of human solidarity.«
-Gabriela Mistral
What is our commitment?
Our commitment is to make a monthly monetary donation to TECHO. This commitment translates into concrete support to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable families. Each donation directly contributes to the movement for building dignified housing, promoting social integration projects, and supporting initiatives aimed at creating a positive and sustainable impact. We firmly believe in the power of collaboration and corporate social responsibility to build a more just and humane future for everyone.
